ENID GERTRUDE MARANTZ Enid passed away peacefully at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Oscar, her brother Allan Goldstine and her parents Fanny and Irvine Goldstine. She is survived by her sister-in-law Jennie Goldstine, her nephews Marc (Robyn), Ian (Elaine), and Lawrence, and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Enid graduated from the University of Manitoba winning the Gold medal for Arts Honours majoring in English and French. She attained her PHD in French literature from the Sorbonne in Paris, France in 1949. She became a world expert on the works of Marcel Proust. Enid's passion in life was to teach French literature at the University of Manitoba for 38 years. She and Oscar enjoyed travelling the world taking in new life experiences. Enid and Oscar established four academic scholarships, two at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, one at the Technion in Haifa, Israel and one at the University of Manitoba. The family would like to thank her numerous caregivers, Cecilia, Minnie, Josephine, Flor, Sonia and Amilitia for helping to maintain a quality of life for Enid. They became Enid's family. Funeral services were held Friday, May 8 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. We would like to thank Rabbi Green for a beautiful eulogy. Pallbearers were: Steven Goldstine, Kyle Goldstine, Tyler Edwards, Jonathan Kroft, David Kroft, and Shane Grusko, honorary pallbearers Daniel Goldstine and Jason Goldstine. Donations can be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Enid and Oscar Marantz Fund, or a charity of your choice.
