RAYMOND CHIN On Tuesday, June 28, 2016 Raymond Chin, age 84, passed away at Misericordia Place Personal Care Home, in Winnipeg Manitoba. Raymond was born on February 27, 1932 in the village of Bai Shi, in Guangdong province, China. Raymond was the eldest of three children. He spent most of his childhood without his father, who was working in Canada to support his family at home in China. After overcoming hardships in his early years, and based on his strong performance in mathematics, in the university entrance exams, he was accepted into Ling Nam University in Canton (Guangdong), China. His education was however interrupted by the Communist Revolution in China. At the age of 18 Raymond immigrated to Windsor, Ontario to reunite with his father. Graduating from high school, he was accepted into the University of Detroit where he received a degree as an Electronic Engineer in 1958. On December 26, 1957 Raymond married the love of his life Judith Hong, in Montreal, Quebec. They began a family with their three boys in Montreal, but later moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Resolute Bay, Northwest Territory, and Comox, British Columbia, before settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1966. Here he would teach electronics at Red River Community College till his retirement in 2001. Raymond loved to fish and hunt, watch his favorite team the Montreal Canadians win the Stanley Cup several times and he also had a keen interest in Trudeau era politics. Raymond was always available to help anyone in need and in any capacity. In 2010 Raymond was diagnosed with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and suffered a stroke in January this year from which he would not recover. Raymond was predeceased by father Frank Chan; mother Toy Don Lee; and sister Susan Chan. He is survived by, wife Judith; brother Arthur Chan (Jenny Lee); nephews, Bryan and Jason, sons, David (Margaret Choy), Daniel (Linda Lee), Donald (Grace Lee), and grandchildren, Benjamin, Breanna, Brendan, Alexander, Adrian, Christopher and Michelle. The family would like to thank the staff at Misericordia Place Personal Care Home for their care and compassion during Raymond's final days. Services and interment to be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery on July 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow at Kum Koon Garden at 5:00 p.m. Viewing will take place on July 5, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Glen Eden Funeral Home Cemetery 204-338-7111
