DIANNE EVELYN AFTANAS

(née ROMANIK)

December 5, 1945 -

September 10, 2025

Peacefully on September 10, 2025, in Winnipeg, our Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Baba, Dianne passed on to a better place.

Born on December 5, 1945, in Winnipeg, Dianne attended Norquay, Aberdeen and St. John’s High schools, working part time at Derry Dell where she was to meet her beloved husband to be Bernie, serving him jumbo deluxe milkshakes with piles of whipped cream. Her beautiful smile and gracious manner led him to propose, and they later married in 1968.

Dianne completed teacher training in Manitoba Teachers College and her first teaching position was in Emerson Manitoba, and later with the Winnipeg School Division at Margaret Scott School where she taught grades 1 and 3 until the birth of her twin daughters Karen and Kerry, and a year later her youngest daughter Angela. She continued to be involved in her children’s activities working as a volunteer in many school programs, sporting events as well as becoming a Brown Owl of the132nd Brownie Pack.

Dianne re-entered the workforce employed at Mappins Jewellers, Peoples Jewellers, Lotions and Potions and Hudson’s Bay at Unicity Mall where she made many good friends and always went that “extra mile” for customers.

Dianne enjoyed five pin bowling and served many years as a league executive on the Tuesday and Friday Leagues at Village Inn Lanes.

One of her passions was gardening, turning her back yard into a beautiful park with lovely flower beds, water garden, and bountiful vegetable garden, sharing the harvest with everyone she knew.

She was also an excellent cook, passing on her culinary skills to her three daughters, whom she loved passionately and to whom she constantly gave her Love and help.

Throughout her life, she was always there to help others and will be remembered for her generosity and kindness.

She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Karen (Chris) Edmonton, Kerry (Shane)Winnipeg, and Angela (Corey) Louisville Kentucky; her beloved husband Bernie of 57 years; her grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michael, Cassie, and Julia.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, Mary and William Romanik; brother Edward (Kathy); mother and father-in-law, Mary and Antoni Aftanas; and a large extended family of brother and sisters-in-laws.

Thank you to the Riverview Health Centre Staff, and Manitoba Cancer Care, for their wonderful loving support.

A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, even though Dianne would love to be surrounded by beauty she loved to create, please make donations to Cancer Care Manitoba, Winnipeg Humane Society, or Assiniboine Park.
