Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) HUGH JONES
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John (Jack) Hugh Jones on August 22, 2025, at St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of ninety-one.
Jack leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life for 69 years, Shirley, his three daughters Debi, Heather (John), Allison (Jerry) and his grandchildren - Jill (Leigh), Jeni, Daniel (Helen), Matthew, Amanda (Marc) and Chris (Jessica). Jack was further blessed by his great-grandchildren Alaina, Elise, Leo, Eric, Eva, and Annette as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their uncle Jack.
Jack signed up in the Air Force in 1955 in CFB Winnipeg in the transportation department, a career choice that allowed the family to experience life overseas, Eastern and Western Canada before his retirement in 1989. The forces were a good fit for Jack. He and Shirley, together, built connections in his work community that evolved into cherished and lasting friendships that, to this very day, remain intact.
Jack was, in the truest sense, a teacher to his family by the way he lived his daily life, leading by example, with integrity, an incredible work ethic, a strong sense of responsibility toward others, and a gentleness that will forever hold him in our hearts.
Jack was an athlete. Whether it be as a defenseman in ice hockey, a pitcher in baseball (A.K.A. "Spider" Jones), playing a game of flag football, golf, or by personally challenging himself, in later years, with his at-home routine, Jack modeled the importance of physical activity.
Jack was also a man who liked to be informed. He was one of those people who knew a little something about everything. He was truly a "Jack" of all trades, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He loved looking at his maps and could be counted on to tell you the best route for a trip and how long it would take you to get there.
Although he lived a long, fulfilled life, we will deeply miss his stories, the twinkle in his eye when he smiled - showing how much he loved us, his quiet humour, and especially his hugs - he gave us the best hugs.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nursing staff on the 5th floor of the St. Boniface General Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.
A private family Celebration of Jack's Life will be held at a later date.
