It is with great sadness that we announce that our father, grandfather, cousin, and uncle, Don, passed away quietly at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg at the age of 82.
He will be sadly missed by children, Erin (Bryon) Maxwell of Chicago and Blair (Kelly) Pickup of Winnipeg, and granddaughters, Sydney and Emma Maxwell, Aliah Romolo, and Hilary Pickup. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Myrtle Pickup, and his infant twin sister Darlene, also his uncle Joe and auntie Blanche Playfoot, and his grandparents, William and Emma McElroy, who were very special to him.
Don's cousin Darlene was very much a part of his life, and he will be missed and always remembered as they spent many hours together.
Don was born in Winnipeg and grew up in East Kildonan. He was active in many sports and always spoke fondly of the time spent at Bronx Park Community Centre. He was an avid Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers fan. Don was extremely proud of his grandchildren and their achievements.
A thank you to the doctors and staff on the third floor of Grace Hospital for the care shown to Don during his lengthy stay. Special thanks to the nurses and staff on the second floor of the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their exceptional care and friendship. Don truly found his "home" there.
Cremation has taken place, and a private interment will be held at a later date.
