Gail Lynn Kress passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 71.
She leaves behind her two sons, Graham (Mignone) and Andrew (Ben); her granddaughter Sophie; brothers Rod (Brenda) and Reg (Denise); nephews Jeffrey, Jarret (Dailynn) and Dylan; along with many other close family members and dear friends.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Gary (2010); mother Nancy (1993) and father Peter (2017).
Gail was a beloved friend, mother, sister and grandmother. Born in 1953 in The Pas, Manitoba, She spent her childhood helping out on the family farm. She grew up to be a dedicated teacher. Gail started her career in rural Manitoba, teaching in communities such as Grand Beach, Falcon Lake, and Ashern before moving to Winnipeg in 2002 and teaching within the Seven Oaks School Division until her retirement in 2013. Much of her long career was spent as a “Resource Teacher”. A teacher who provided opportunities to students who needed assistance in reaching achievement in their studies. Even after retirement, she continued to work part time, working with those students to continue ensuring their success.
Gail loved making people smile, and cooking was one of the most reliable ways. She could often be found making pierogies, holubtsi, and many other dishes treasured by those close to her. Gail also developed a love of travelling after retirement, exploring many parts of Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia with friends and family. She spent her final years in Victoria, B.C., to be closer to her oldest son and granddaughter, where she got to play the role of “Baba”; a role which she cherished.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Parkinson Wellness Project for helping her navigate her disease; as well as the staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, who made her final months as comfortable as possible.
Gail will be missed by many.
A service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gail’s memory to Parkinson Canada.
