It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, colleague, neighbour, and friend.
Elaine passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 73 after a long, courageous and heartbreaking journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Vawn, Saskatchewan, on October 17, 1951, Elaine and her family moved to Sainte-Agathe, Manitoba, where she raised her family until she and Emile moved to Winnipeg in 1985.
Elaine became a Registered Nurse after completing her studies at the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing in 1971. During this time, she met the love of her life, Emile Huberdeau and they married. Elaine worked as a Labour and Delivery Nurse in Morris, Manitoba, completed a Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Manitoba, and served her extended community as a Public Health Nurse with a specialty in Mental Health. Towards the end of her career, Elaine completed a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Winnipeg and worked as a Counsellor at the Centre de Santé when it opened its doors in 1999, until her retirement in 2009. When asked why she returned to study later in life, she responded, “I don’t want to work longer, I want to work smarter.”
Elaine was a voracious reader and loved cinema, music, and long walks throughout St. Boniface. She was passionate about ensuring the comfort and look of her home and loved to host extravagant dinners for family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who fiercely supported her family, whom she loved dearly. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
She leaves behind her three children, Lisa (Stéphane), Patrick (Monique) and Rémy (Christi-an); a small brood of beloved grandchildren: Luka, Miguel, Arianne, Brielle, Marco and Léo; brothers and sisters-in-law: Alfred (Anne), Marc (Huguette), Paul (Sherry) and Guy (Jennifer); and extended family in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband Emile Huberdeau, her sister Evelyn, and her parents, Pauline and François Phaneuf.
Elaine and Emile’s ashes will be interred in the columbarium of the Saint-Boniface cemetery on Archibald Street on September 27 with family present. The family extends their heartfelt thank-you to the caregivers and staff at Actionmarguerite, St. Vital.

To the Huberdeau families, I received care from Elaine during one of my hospitalizations at the St. Boniface General Hospital in the mid 1970's and later worked alongside with her during our employ by the provincial government (Health and Family Services). No matter where or when, I always found Elaine to be friendly, compassionate and very efficient. Our time spent together will remain with me forever. Her sense of humor always lightened my day. She will not be forgotten. Condolences to the entire family. RIP Elaine. - Posted by: Jocelyne Lafournaise (colleague) on: Sep 27, 2025
