LOUISE MARIE BABINIEC

1954 - 2025

Peacefully, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Louise Babiniec (nee Proulx) of Lockport, Manitoba, passed away at the age of 71 after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend, David, with whom she shared 27 beautiful years of marriage.

Louise was predeceased by her parents, Dorat Proulx and Marie-Jeanne Lussier, and her sister, Hélène Hupé. She is lovingly remembered by her husband David, her brother Leo, and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her kindness and warmth.

Born in St. Boniface and raised in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, Louise graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate in St. Vital, Winnipeg. Her professional life reflected her dedication and adaptability. She served for many years in health care administration at Doug Christie Physiotherapy Clinic and Concordia Hospital before transitioning to a bilingual customer service role at Princess Auto for over a decade. Later, she continued to share her language skills through casual work with Home Depot and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries.

Louise and David built a home filled with love - and a little extra joy thanks to their “furry kids,” Nikkie, Mollie, and Brutus. Together, they embraced life as snowbirds in Texas and Arizona, and enjoyed countless adventures traveling across Canada and the United States. At home in Lockport, Louise found happiness in simple pleasures: volunteering as condo treasurer, sewing, cooking, reading, gardening, and savouring the beauty of nature along the Red River. She especially loved long walks with David and Brutus in the Birds Hill area.

Family and friends were at the heart of Louise’s life. She delighted in hosting gatherings and creating warm, welcoming spaces for those she loved. A devoted Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan, Louise shared many seasons with David in the stands - often asking just a few too many questions about the CFL game! Her active spirit shone through in her love for yoga, fitness, half-marathons, lawn bowling, and curling, where her perseverance inspired others.

Louise enjoyed her favorite television shows, from foreign crime dramas on Netflix to “The Big Bang Theory,” CBS’s “Sunday Morning,” “The View,” and even a dachshund mini-series on YouTube. Her musical tastes were just as vibrant - she adored Adam Lambert, Queen, tribute performances, country legends Alan Jackson and Rod Stewart, Canadian icon Burton Cummings, and even David’s clarinet playing.

Faith, love, friendship, and loyalty were the pillars of Louise’s life. She stood strong for family and friends in times of need and lived each day with grace and gratitude. Her simple joys included mustard sandwiches, cheesecake, chili from the Red Top Drive Inn, and visiting Pine Ridge Hollow.

Louise lived without regrets, and now, she rests in heaven, worshiping her God and awaiting her reunion with David. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many care teams who supported Louise’s journey: CancerCare Manitoba in Winnipeg (Dr. D. Dawe and Dr. Ahmed), the palliative care team at Selkirk Interlake Eastern Region (Dr. Clark, Heidi and Brycie), Selkirk Regional Health Centre’s Palliative Care Team (2nd Floor), Elemental Professional Health Centre in Winnipeg, Rev. Fr. Yaroslav Buduykevych and assistant Anne, Fr. Yeuhen Zaborozhny, the Grey Nuns of St. Boniface, les Soeurs Grises, volunteer care ministers Duncan and Murray, many family and friends, and Korban Funeral Home for their professionalism and guidance.

In accordance with Louise’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service was held with Rev. Fr. Frank Zachary Azadiak officiating at Holy Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

May Louise rest in eternal peace.
