On November 19, 2025, Douglas Southam passed away peacefully at the age of 97. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Isabelle.
Remembering Douglas forever in their hearts are his children Gregory (Jennifer), Tracy and Sandra (Doug), granddaughter Molly and step-granddaughters, Alissa (Steve), Shawna and Robin (Andrew) and seven step-great-grandchildren. Douglas is also survived by brother Stewart, sister Ruth (Bill), and brother-in-law John MacLeod, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doug was born in Pierson, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with degrees in agriculture and education. His professional life was in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He was quite involved in community groups during those years. After retirement, he moved to Devon, AB, where he lived for 25 years before moving to Leduc, AB.
He sang in several choirs for years, most notably for barbershop groups. During the years in Devon, he was active in Devon United Church and the Edmonton and Area Friendship Force group. With Friendship Force, he and Isabelle were privileged to host and be hosted by friends from all over the world. He travelled to many countries and was keenly interested in the welfare of people around the globe.
The family would like to thank Lifestyle Options staff, Alberta Health Services care workers, and the compassionate doctors and nurses and staff at the Leduc Hospital for making Doug's final days as comfortable as possible.
Doug's wishes were for a graveside funeral in Pierson, Manitoba, cemetery in the spring.
