Lorraine Fraser

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Lorraine Fraser on December 24, 2025.

Lorraine lived her life with generosity and kindness as her guiding principles. She made friends easily and loved to entertain. Her ever-present sense of humour, her joy in simple things, and her care for others made spending time with her very special.

An active and adventure-loving person, she enjoyed hiking, canoeing, skiing, white-water rafting and was always eager for any new experiences. Lorraine loved the natural world and its many creatures. She enjoyed the outdoors and shared many happy times with family, friends, and four-legged family members at the Betula Lake cottage.

Lorraine loved to teach and spent her professional life working with struggling learners and supporting the teachers who worked with them. She had an amazing ability to identify a student’s most critical needs. She taught in rural communities in Manitoba, worked with the Department of Education’s mobile reading clinic, and at the Manitoba Learning Centre. She completed her career in schools in the Pembina Trails School Division. After formally retiring she continued to tutor adult learners.

A life-long reader and writer, Lorraine enjoyed exploring the deeper meanings of life. Reading and writing poetry were some of her favourite activities.

Lorraine had many health challenges which she met with courage, determination, creativity and humour. She was very grateful for the many caring and compassionate healthcare workers she met on her journey. She was especially thankful for the many workers at Oakview Place this past year.

Lorraine was loved and will be missed by her son Wayne, her nephew Doug (Betty) and their son Seth. She will be missed by her friend Noreen and many other close friends as well. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents and her sister Pat.

In memory of Lorraine donations can be made to Siloam Mission.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I worked with Lorraine at Dalhousie School in the resource area. She taught me so much in that field. We became very close friends.I will miss her. My heart goes out to her dear son Wayne and extended family. - Posted by: Barb Brako (Co-worker and friend) on: Jan 04, 2026

  • Lorraine was the Resource teacher in the school of my first teaching job. I was pretty green and valued her support and friendship. My husband and I remained friends with her and her mom Sally, where we spent many fun times at their cottage at Betula Lake. My husband, a carpenter by trade, helped with some early renovations on the cottage, so when Lorraine sold the cottage many years later, it was nice to be invited back for a party there before the new owners took possession. At that time we met some of her friends old and new who also had memories of the cottage life she willingly shared with so many. She really was a special person! - Posted by: Doreen Cooper (Old Friend) on: Jan 04, 2026

  • We offer our sincere sympathy to family and friends of Lorraine. She was such a wonderful person and a joy to be with. We will always remember the fun, enthusiasm, great discussions, and friendship we felt when we were with Lorraine. She was a strong and determined individual and a great support to many people over the years. - Posted by: Brian and Laurel Rossnagel (Friends) on: Jan 03, 2026
