Allen James passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026.
Al is survived by his wife, Arleen; his children, Derrick (Fern) and Ginger; grandchildren, Matthew, Brady and Jeremy; son-in-law Avery; extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his son Brad.
He and Arleen met in their early 20s and were married within the year, sharing 56 years together. Their life was built on the small, thoughtful things they did for each other that made each other's days easier. Even in his final days, his thoughts were with her and making sure she would be alright.
He was born in 1946, grew up in south Transcona and spent much of his working life at Dominion Malting before retiring. Retirement didn't last long, though. He continued working and eventually took a job in the building where he lived and worked there for more than a decade. He enjoyed the work, helping residents when they needed it and the friendships he made.
He wasn't someone who liked to sit still. He always had somewhere to be or something to do. Before illness slowed him down, he worked out every day, liked being outside in the sun, going for coffee, and helping people whenever he could. Though he could seem imposing and gruff, those who knew him understood he was a big man with a kind heart.
He loved his sweet treats, his family, and his sports teams. He also loved having a funny story to tell and when he did, he would make sure to gather everyone around to hear it. Those stories will be greatly missed. He will be missed.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service.
