OLIVER YNGVE WIDING February 28, 1925 - July 8, 2001 Peacefully, on Sunday, July 8, 2001, Oliver Widing, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Hilkka; daughters, Katriina (Wayne Laniuk), Tuula (Bev) grandchildren, Kristina (Kevin Etter), Corey, Jim, Matthew, Jon, Miles, Peter (Karoline), Fredrick; and great-granddaughters, Nicola, Sofia, and Viktoria. His two sons, Juha (Susan), and Matti (Ulla) predeceased him. Oliver was born in Ekenes, Finland of Swedish decent. At an early age, he went to sea and travelled the world. In the last year of the Second World War, Oliver was on a ship close to Scotland that was torpedoed by a German submarine and sank. He then went back to Finland to join the army as a gunner. While in Canada, Oliver worked for Pacific Airlines until he retired. He loved his family and home and always lived life to the fullest. Oliver enjoyed woodworking and he created many toys for children, which he donated to charity. A private family service has been held.
