WALTER ZIELKE-REUSCH "ZOOHKY" On Monday, February 25, 2002, a humble and gentle man we all knew as "Zoohky" slipped away peacefully and entered into his eternal rest. Zoohky was truly an extraordinary and unique individual. He was known by many but particularly by the people of the West End where his familiar figure riding a bicycle became his trademark. He was born in Yorkton, SK on April 2, 1928 and moved to Winnipeg at an early age with his mother Lydia and Aunt Olga. In his early years, Zoohky made many friends at the B&B Restaurant. He travelled extensively throughout the city where he touched the lives of many. Zoohky had a knack for fixing things and nothing would bring him greater joy than taking a broken radio, television or bicycle and returning it to its owner in good working condition. Zoohky also had a passion for poetry and music. Over the years, he composed many thought-provoking pieces that are left behind for us to ponder. Zoohky touched many people in a very special way. He sincerely cared about everyone who crossed his path and in spite of his own adversities, he maintained a positive attitude about life. His warm smile, sharp wit and caring nature for his fellow man are the legacy he leaves behind. Zoohky is mourned by relatives in Canada and Germany and everyone whose lives he touched. In particular, he will be missed by the staff at Jeannies Bakery, the financial institutions he frequented and Canada Safeway where he made his daily rounds. Also a special thank you to his friends Leo, Doug and Gino for their support and friendship the last few years. A celebration of Zoohkys life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 22 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Pastor Bruce Martin will lead the service. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation in Zoohkys name can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Our family lived in Winnipeg until the late 60's. Zoohky was a neighbour of ours.He was much like family really though. One of milder brothers was disabled and Zoohky wanted to spend time with him constantly and they did. My brother Allan was also a whiz at repairing virtually anything. We moved to the west coast in the late 60's but I still remember the way he whispered when he spoke and proudly he sang. My brother passed in 2004 also of a heart attack. I can still hear Zoohky circling the neighbourhood and calling for my brother. I was so grateful to find that so many loved and knew him. - Posted by: Helena (Friend) on: Feb 29, 2016
