Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER DOWHAN July 1, 1926 - January 19, 2004 Peacefully on January 19, 2004, our father and Gigi, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. Walter leaves to mourn his son Gordon and wife Jamie, grandchildren, Taylor, Beau and Brittany; son David; son Robert and wife Cynthia, grandchildren, Victoria and Christopher and daughter Louise and husband Grant Bertouille, grandchildren, Brett and Kelsey. Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife Simone on May 4, 2002. He was also predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Mary Dowhanyk and sister Lesia Adelberg. He will be dearly remembered by his sister Nadia Burke and his in-laws, Norm and Cheryl Adelberg, Irene St. Laurent, Suzanne and Ed Bell, Liliane Puhach, Alice Proulx, Denise Valaire, Nicole and Jim Sanderson, Marie Anne Hamonic, and Dagmar Hamonic. Next to family, Walters greatest love was practicing law, which he did in Manitoba for the past 52 years. He was joined by his son Robert and daughter Louise and together they formed the law firm of Dowhan and Dowhan. Dad was proud of his recent honorarium from the Law Society of Manitoba for the achievement of 50 years of distinguished practice. Walters tastes in life were simple and yet he enjoyed them to the fullest. They included travelling, berry picking, gardening and yard work. Especially important to him was entertaining family and friends at his home and his hospitality was endless. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in Palliative Care, SICU and 7A West at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion. A special thank you to his cardiologist Dr. Hugh Smith for his wonderful care over the years. Viewing and prayers will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe and Brazier. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m. also at the church, with a luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Taylor Dowhan, Jim Sanderson, Glenn Burke, Scott Puhach, Kevin Melnyk and Roth Adelberg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walters memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6, or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
