GEORGE SAYER January 19, 1916 - June 23, 2004 Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Concordia Hospital with family by his side. George is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Violet (Carver) daughter Glenda (Glenn) Hewgill; daughter-in-law Corinne Sayer; sons, Hugh, Raymond (Michelle), David (Audrey), Terry (Carolyn), Victor (Velvet). He was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. George also has numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a sister Flora Brown. George served in the Army as a gunner from 1939 to 1945 and served in the Central Mediterranean area, Canada, Italy, Britain, and Northeast Europe. He received Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian volunteer Service Medal with clasp and War Medal 1939-1945. George loved to play the fiddle and won many contests in Manitoba. He also really enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. Georges family was the centre of his life and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren at the family cottage in Grand Marais, picnicking, swimming and blueberry picking. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital for their excellent care over the years. Thanks to the home care workers, especially Alimamy. Remember... God saw you were getting older and tired. A cure was not to be, so God put his arms around you and whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and watched you fade away although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to prove he only takes the best. So when its lonesome here without you, know that we miss you more each day. Life will be different now that you have Gone away. When days are sad and lonely and everything goes wrong we seem to hear you whisper "cheer up and carry on." Each time we see your picture you seem to smile and say dont cry Im in Gods keeping, well meet again someday. We love you dad, grandpa, Father Sayer, and well miss you. God has you in his keeping, we have you in ours hearts.
