James (Jim) Williams, beloved husband of Florence Williams of Stonewall, MB, passed away at Stonewall and District Hospital on Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the age of 87 years. Besides his wife Florence; he is survived by daughter Diane (Henri) Pillett; daughter Pamela (Bill) Leah; son Dallas (Terry) Williams; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and also many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his parents, Anne and Alfred Williams; brother Neville (Dolly) sister Dolly (Bert) Anderson; and his first wife Phyllis, mother of his three children. He was born in Winnipeg September 8, 1916 and attended Laura Secord and Gordon Bell Schools and Success Business College. Jim worked at the family business, Williams Engineering until he went overseas with the Army Service Corps. Upon his return, he joined Maple Leaf Construction, the company founded by his father and brother in 1943. He served as Vice President until 1967 when the company was sold to loyal employees. Jim was always proud that he designed the company logo which is still used. He was a natural Mr. Fix It. If he couldnt fix it no one could. He had a well equipped workshop at his residence in Stonewall. Jim was an avid curler and joined the Deer Lodge Curling Club in 1948 serving on the Board for many years before becoming President in 1960-1961. He also served on the executive of the Manitoba Curling Association and was elected President in 1969 - 1970, the year the Canadian Brier was held in the Winnipeg Arena. Jim was an Honorary Life Member of the DLCC and the MCA. He skipped numerous teams which won many events. In 1986 he was on the 5 pin bowling team which represented Manitoba at the National Championships in Sudbury, ON. Jim had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 57 years. Funeral service will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, Rev. Walter D. Shunk of Vallejo, California presiding. Interment will follow at Lilyfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
